The ancient Colossus of Rhodes, once considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is set to rise again.

Legend has it that the Colossus of Rhodes stood in the harbor of Rhodes, Greece, between 292 and 280 BC, and was among the most mysterious of the Seven Wonders of the World. Unlike Egypt’s Pyramids, which still stand today, the giant statue was destroyed by an earthquake, leaving modern people to imagine its grandeur only through historical texts and paintings. Now, a professional team comprising experts from the UK, Greece, and Spain—including architects, economists, archaeologists, and civil engineers—is planning to recreate the Colossus using modern technology. Their goal is to restore a symbol of Greece’s former glory, attract tourists, and revitalize the country’s economy.
