Top maple-viewing spot in central Taiwan: Daxue Mountain's leaves are turning red

Daxue Mountain Forest Recreation Area is one of the most beautiful maple-viewing spots in Taichung, beloved by many travelers who adore autumn foliage. Currently, about 20% of the maple leaves on Daxue Mountain have turned red. Nature lovers should seize the opportunity and head to Daxue Mountain to chase the fall colors while you can.

The Dongshi Forest District Office stated that the maple trees in Daxue Mountain Forest Recreation Area mainly include Taiwan red maple, green maple, sweet gum, and pointed-leaf maple. The color-changing progress varies by area but has reached about 20%. The Puxianxiang cherry blossoms in front of the Visitor Center at kilometer 43 have donned their crimson attire, with fallen leaves scattering everywhere, bringing a touch of romantic autumn charm to visitors. In addition, it’s currently peak season for sea of clouds at Daxue Mountain. The drifting clouds among the mountains, set against the crimson maple leaves, create a poetic and picturesque scene.

Additionally, as the year comes to a close, it’s also the best time to admire the sea of clouds at Daxue Mountain. At over 22 kilometers along the Daxue Mountain Forest Road, there are several spots with wide views where, on clear days, you can see the endless green mountains. When the mountain wind blows, the sea of clouds drifts among the peaks. Daxue Mountain Forest Recreation Area is about a 45-minute drive from Dongshi. Consider staying overnight at Daxue Mountain and visiting Xinshe Flower Sea the next day—you’ll get to enjoy both maple leaves and flowers in one trip.
