A full-scale Eiffel Tower stands atop a vast grassy field — but this isn’t France. It’s “Carcassonne French Restaurant,” located in the rustic town of Tongluo, Miaoli. As one of the few French restaurants in the area, it has just celebrated its first anniversary and focuses on high-end French cuisine. Compared to cramped French eateries in Taipei, this spot features additional garden attractions such as a LOVE heart installation, piano-key stairs, and a treehouse — perfect for photos. Even President Tsai Ing-wen has paid a visit. Here, you can slow down like the French and enjoy a unique dining experience as if you were under the southern French sun.

The restaurant boasts spacious, bright interiors with pastoral views right outside the windows. Catering to the growing trend of solo dining, the owners have even installed special “king’s chairs” for individual guests, ensuring that singles can also enjoy a comfortable meal. Owner Mr. Chang, who once lived in France, brought back scenic inspirations from his European travels, adorning the space with multiple Eiffel Tower-inspired decorations that enhance the French ambiance. Compared to other French restaurants, Carcassonne opts for a more understated, simple, and natural style.

The head chef is French, and Mr. Chang also takes part in cooking. He spent two years studying at Le Cordon Bleu in France and is dedicated to bringing France’s slow food culture back to his hometown. The menu combines French culinary techniques with local ingredients. Prices are not cheap — set meals start at NT$1,280, including an appetizer, soup, main course, and a choice of dessert, coffee, or tea. The menu changes every three months, and netizens generally agree that the food is top-notch. In addition, it’s a family-friendly restaurant, with a children’s ball pit play area downstairs.

One downside is that the restaurant is by reservation only and does not allow drop-in visits or free photography.
