Chiayi’s Most Beautiful Nighttime Attraction: The Dreamy Moonlit Reflections at Lantan Lake

In recent years, more and more landscape art installations have appeared across Taiwan, not only embellishing urban scenery but also providing residents and tourists with great spots for photos and check-ins. In Chiayi’s Lantan Scenic Area, there is one particularly popular art piece loved by couples and newlyweds called “Moonlit Reflections at Lantan Lake.” Created by artist Wang Zhiwen, this large woven artwork allows visitors to gaze out over the entire Lantan Lake during the day, while colorful lighting at night adds an even more romantic atmosphere.

Artist Wang Zhiwen’s work “Moonlit Reflections at Lantan Lake” is located within Lantan Scenic Area. Lantan Lake serves as a major source of tap water for the Chiayi region, situated just 3 kilometers from the city center, covering a vast area of about 70 hectares. It boasts rich natural resources including plants and insects, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists to go hiking, exercise, and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery.

The artwork “Moonlit Reflections at Lantan Lake” is a woven creation made of aluminum sheets, stainless steel, and iron. Its shape resembles a giant hollow bird’s nest by the lakeside, echoing the surrounding trees and birds. The name “Moon” (月影) represents the beautiful sight of moonlight reflecting on the water (“泛月”), while “Lantan Lake’s Heart” (潭心) refers to the ripples at the lake’s center, which phonetically resembles “talking heart” (谈心), evoking a leisurely mood for lake wandering. Together, they convey the landscape imagery of “moon, water, and lake strolling” in Lantan. The terracotta circular water droplets at the base resemble Lantan’s endless water source, extending into dreamy colors. The upper part of the central nest resembles a peach, symbolizing Chiayi’s ancient nickname “Peach City”; the side tree nests stand upright like turkey tail feathers, evoking the locally famous “turkey rice”; the design integrates Chiayi’s cultural and tourism characteristics.
