To welcome the first light of 2016, the Central Weather Bureau’s Astronomical Observatory stated that Taiwan’s first ray of sunlight on New Year’s Day will appear at 6:35 AM in Kenting’s Longkeng and Taitung’s Sanci Platform. Those planning to go are advised to prepare in advance.

The Central Weather Bureau stated that the first sunlight on Taiwan’s main island in 2016 will appear at 6:35 AM in Kenting’s Longkeng and Taitung’s Sanci Platform; shortly after, in Hualien’s Chongde and Yilan’s Su’ao, the sun can be seen at 6:36 AM; then at 6:37 AM, it’s Taipei’s Bitou Cape and Sandiao Cape.If you’re in Orchid Island for New Year’s Eve, you can witness the earliest sunrise in all of Taiwan at 6:33 AM.

Besides witnessing the first light of 2016, those wanting to chase the last sunset of 2015 in Taiwan can do so at 5:25 PM in Tainan’s Anping and Kaohsiung’s Sizihwan. Other sunset times, from early to late, are: New Taipei’s Fisherman’s Wharf at 5:15 PM, Taoyuan’s Yong’an Fishing Port at 5:17 PM, Hsinchu’s Nanliao Fishing Port at 5:18 PM, Miaoli’s Tongxiao at 5:19 PM, Taichung’s Wuchi at 5:20 PM, and Pingtung’s Guanshan at 5:24 PM.For outlying islands, the sunset time in Penghu’s Siyu is 5:26 PM, and in Taiping Island, it’s 5:28 PM, the latest sunset in all of Taiwan.
