During autumn and winter, the high-altitude regions receive abundant moisture, and with the help of seasonal winds, sea of clouds phenomena are especially common. The sea of clouds over Alishan in Chiayi is one of the area’s five major wonders and is a must-see natural beauty in Taiwan. From November onwards is the best time to visit Alishan to admire the sea of clouds. The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area has also shared on its official Facebook page the best spots to enjoy the sunset and sea of clouds. These include the “Ogasawara Mountain Viewing Platform,” “Ciyun Temple Viewing Platform,” “second floor of the Alishan Train Station,” the “viewing platform outside the main gate ticket office,” as well as locations nearby within the park such as “89.5 km along Highway 18 in the direction of Tatacha,” and “20,000 Pings, 3 km in from the 86 km mark in the direction of Chiayi” — all great places to take in the view.
