Taipei has a new ramen shop in town. “Nantsutteng” (なんつっ亭)  which has won multiple food awards in Japan, is opening its first overseas branch in Taipei’s East District, located on Lane 216. The official opening is scheduled for December 28. Foodies planning to visit should note that Nantsutteng does not accept reservations—diners must line up on-site.

Taipei’s Lane 216 in the East District is teeming with eateries, and over the past year it has become a hotspot for Japanese ramen shops. In addition to stores like Enjin Ramen from Hokkaido, Tokyo Taka Ramen, and Setagaya Ramen, the ramen shop originating from Kanagawa Prefecture, “Nantsutteng,” has now set up shop here. Established in 1997 by Furuhashi Ichiro, Nantsutteng was born after the founder learned the art of ramen at a renowned shop during his youth before returning to his hometown of Kanagawa to open “Nantsutteng.” In Japan, besides the flagship store, there are also branches in Shinagawa, Mito, Okachimachi, and Kawasaki. Internationally, the brand has locations in Thailand and Singapore.

Nantsutteng ramen is known for its intense and rich pork bone broth, complemented by specially made black garlic oil with a smoky aroma, and paired with tender, melt-in-your-mouth char siu pork. This combination has left many ramen enthusiasts with a lasting impression of its deliciousness. It has previously won accolades at the TBS Ramen King Competition, TRY Awards, and Television Champion, among others. Now, you can experience its exquisite taste without flying to Japan.
