In addition to Kaohsiung, New Taipei City's Department of Rapid Transit Systems is steadily progressing with the construction of the Tamsui Light Rail, recently unveiling its first prototype train, the "Azure Warrior." Its azure-blue exterior and design concept represent the blue skies and waterfront scenery of Tamsui. The train is expected to be fully assembled by November 2015. Phase 1 of the Tamsui Line will extend from the MRT Dakeng Station to the Tamsui New Town, while Phase 2 will connect MRT Tamsui Station through the Tamsui Old Street to the Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, making Tamsui travel more convenient. The project is expected to be completed progressively starting in 2018.

In addition to the Tamsui Light Rail being Taiwan’s second light rail line, future plans include the Ankeng Light Rail. The integration of light rail with MRT systems enhances transportation convenience, transforms urban landscapes, and boosts local tourism benefits.
