Romantic fun: soak in hot springs and admire plum blossoms as tens of thousands of plum trees bloom like snow

With the arrival of cold fronts, the damp and chilly weather is the perfect time to soak in hot springs and appreciate plum blossoms. The renowned BaoLai and BouLa hot springs in Liouguei District, Kaohsiung City, combined with the sea of plum blossoms that bloom across the mountains every winter, make it a popular winter travel destination in southern Taiwan. Recently, the plum blossom season has arrived in Liouguei District. Around 40–50% of the 12,000 plum trees in the Zhulin Leisure Agriculture Area have bloomed. The district office also held a “Plum Blossoms Galore” appreciation event on the weekend of January 9 and 10, welcoming visitors to come and enjoy the blossoms.

Plum blossoms around Taiwan are gradually entering their blooming period. In Liouguei, a vast plum forest covering 200 hectares is home to about 12,000 plum trees. This year’s bloom is about ten days later than usual, but they are now entering full bloom, becoming one of the most beautiful floral scenes in southern Taiwan. Especially in the Zhulin area of Liouguei and the Meilong Mountain west-facing slopes of Baolai Village—both professional plum-growing zones at elevations between 440m and 1,320m—the climate is highly suitable for growing plum trees. It is expected that the plum blossom scenery can still be enjoyed until early February.
