2016 Japan cherry blossom forecast released – catch the best blooming period

With spring just around the corner, the pink blossoms are getting ready to bloom. The 2016 Japan cherry blossom season forecast was officially released on January 14. According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, from March 22 onwards, you can see cherry blossoms in Tokyo and Nagoya, with the peak blooming period expected on March 29 and 31.

The Japan Meteorological Corporation has been releasing forecasts for 1,000 famous cherry blossom viewing spots across Japan, along with predictions for when cherry blossoms will start blooming and reach full bloom in each city, every January. The forecasts are updated every two weeks. This year, due to climate conditions, cherry blossoms in northern Japan are expected to bloom on a different timeline — in eastern Japan they’ll bloom earlier than usual, while in western Japan and southern Kyushu they’ll bloom a bit later. Those planning to go cherry blossom viewing in Japan should keep an eye on the latest city-specific forecasts and plan ahead.
