With the 2016 Spring Festival here, Tainan City’s most popular Lunar New Year event, the “Flower Festival,” is scheduled to launch on February 4th. Carrying forward last year’s spirit of “flowers blooming everywhere,” this year’s event will continue to beautify six locations: Shuiping Park, Nanying Green Heart Park, Liujia District Multifunctional Sports Park, Jiali Park, Xigang Central Park, and Shuijiaoshe Park. The exhibition period runs from February 4th to February 25th, spanning 22 days in total. Themed around the Year of the Monkey and inspired by “Journey to the West,” the festival blends Tainan’s diverse urban imagery, using vibrant floral displays to create a joyful festive atmosphere for the Lunar New Year.

● Shuiping Park
Themed “The Ancient Capital in Bloom,” the main entrance is designed with imagery inspired by the Heavenly Palace from Journey to the West, featuring Sun Wukong as the welcoming ambassador. The park also incorporates motifs of the Bull Demon King, drawing inspiration from Tainan’s farming culture, along with representations of Tang Sanzang, Sha Wujing, and Zhu Bajie, showcasing the cultural charm of a city rooted in migration and history.
● Nanying Green Heart Park
A “Wukong Garden” is created, featuring flower beds shaped like somersault clouds, peach banquet installations, and playful Wukong-themed art, using oversized props to deliver a whimsical storytelling experience.

● Liujia District Multifunctional Sports Park
Based on the Journey to the West setting of the Flower Fruit Mountain, a “Flower Fruit Paradise” is set up, featuring installations of Wukong riding the clouds, fruit-shaped decorations inspired by local agricultural products, and Nazca line patterns arranged with flowers to immerse visitors in exploration. The design also incorporates local art, enthusiasm, and childlike charm unique to Liujia District to welcome guests.

● Jiali Park
Jiali’s local culture, including the Taiwan Sugar Railway, is integrated with the park’s existing trees to create a “Fantasy Forest,” building a strong mythical atmosphere in line with Journey to the West.
● Xigang Central Park
Drawn from the adventurous spirit of Journey to the West and also inspired by the similarly adventure-themed fairy tale “The Wizard of Oz,” the park tells different adventure stories through installations like a fantastical dreamland, an emerald castle, and a journey of adventure, creating an educational and entertaining exhibition space.
● Xiaojiao She Park
The park features floral landscapes based on the military dependents' village culture of the Xiaojiao She Thunder Tiger Air Force Base, paired with seasonal special events that evoke nostalgia.
