Spring Flower Viewing Guide in Tainan

Apart from exploring cultural heritage sites and tasting delicious food, visitors to Tainan can also enjoy the sight of blossoming welcome trees. These seasonal floral displays pair wonderfully with travel itineraries, offering a chance to visit these beautiful spots around Tainan and add some gorgeous natural colors to your trip photos.

● Plum Blossoms
Renowned for its plum blossoms, Meiling in Tainan is not only covered with an abundance of plum trees but also dotted with numerous Taiwan mountain cherries, azaleas, and peonies. These create an early spring atmosphere in the mountains from January to February. The starting point for flower viewing is at the entrance to Meifeng Ancient Trail next to the public restaurant. Along this approximately one-kilometer mid-elevation trail, you’ll find around 600 Taiwan mountain cherry trees in full bloom, as well as tens of thousands of azaleas and peonies, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the scenery and capture beautiful memories.

● Magenta Trumpet Tree
The beautiful and romantic magenta trumpet tree is the first charming herald of Tainan’s spring. Plentifully planted along roadsides in Xiaying District, Jiali District, Liujia District, Shanhua District, West Central District, and North District, with scattered presence also found in Annan District, Dajia District, Guantian District, Liuying District, Xinying District, Xuejia District, and Yujing District. These trees bloom from around January to February with purple or pinkish-red flowers, which appear only after their leaves have fallen. When in full bloom, their delicate, bell-like blossoms hanging on the branches are truly stunning.

● Yellow Trumpet Tree & Sunflowers
Also blooming in early spring are the yellow trumpet trees, which feature golden-yellow clustered blooms that resemble small flower heads. Their yellow-orange flowers sway in the wind and gently fall like golden rain, creating an endlessly romantic atmosphere under the trees. These trees are widely planted in Yizai Jincheng, Anping Tree House, Linsen Road in East District, Park Boulevard in Jiali District, Ye Shitao Literature Memorial Hall in West Central District, Yenping Prince Shrine, both sides of Airport Road in Ren District, Wenxiao No. 2 Park in Xiaying, Tiger Head Pond Suspension Bridge Café, and Taiwan Poetry Road in Yanshui District. Also appearing along Taiwan Poetry Road are sunflowers cultivated by farmers—perfect for visitors to admire during the land’s fallow season.
