In recent years, a trend of mermaid swimming has emerged overseas. By donning a mermaid tail, you can fully engage your abdominal, thigh, and gluteal muscles while gracefully gliding through the water. Not only do you get to explore the beautiful underwater world, but you also get to become a fairy-tale mermaid, which is incredibly fun. And now, you don’t have to go abroad to experience mermaid diving—in Taiwan, you can find mermaid schools that offer this service.

The founder of Taiwan’s mermaid school was originally a photographer who, after getting into diving and mermaid diving, introduced the concept to Taiwan. They opened the first mermaid school in Taiwan in Kenting and specially ordered mermaid tails from Germany that fit the body shapes of Taiwanese girls for students to try. Each tail features a design similar to flippers. As long as you follow the instructors’ guidance on movement techniques and related safety knowledge, even non-swimmers can quickly get the hang of it and transform into mermaids, freely gliding through the sea. In addition to providing a unique diving experience, the mermaid school also hopes to let everyone appreciate the beauty of Taiwan’s oceans.

A full-day mermaid school course lasts about 6 to 8 hours and costs between NT$13,000 and NT$15,000. In addition to offering comprehensive mermaid swimming instruction, teaching students how to safely move and swim underwater, the school also provides full photo services so visitors can keep unforgettable memories. Currently, aside from the location in Kenting, a Taipei branch is also in the works.
