A burst of girlish charm: MT washi tape train sets off in style

Japan’s specialty trains are pulling out all the stops, and starting February 21, they’re introducing a colorful washi tape train called “mt × SUN LINER.” Both the exterior and interior are adorned with adorable washi tape — just seeing this washi tape train gliding through Japan’s beautiful scenery lifts your spirits right away.

Japanese washi tape manufacturer mt (Masking Tape) has collaborated with JR West to deck out some trains running between Okayama, Kurashiki, and Mihara on the San’yō Main Line in Okayama Prefecture, covering them inside and out with eye-catching washi tape. The result is a candy-colored MT washi tape train, the “mt × SUN LINER.” The interior also features advertisements promoting various sightseeing spots in Okayama Prefecture, such as Kurashiki City known for its white-walled townscapes and Kosugi City facing the Seto Inland Sea.

The “mt × SUN LINER” is scheduled to officially begin service on February 21 and will run until June 30. Each ride lasts between 50 to 90 minutes, with slight variations in daily train frequency.
