Popular Japanese restaurant brands are expanding to Taiwan one after another, and the must-try Nagoya dish “Yabaton Miso Pork Cutlet” has officially confirmed the opening of its first Taiwanese branch in Taipei’s Yongkang District on February 18th—much to the excitement of food lovers.

The first-generation owner of “Yabaton Miso Pork Cutlet,” Suzuki Yoshio, discovered by chance how delicious pork cutlets are when paired with miso sauce. He then dedicated himself to developing the ideal miso sauce recipe. In Showa 22 (1947), he opened the original store “Yabaton Tonkatsu” right in front of the streetcar stop at 4-chome, Minami-Ohatsutenjin, which quickly became a popular local favorite. The “Miso Pork Cutlet” also rose to fame as a well-known delicacy. While pouring thick red miso sauce over the pork cutlet is the mainstream way to enjoy it today, the restaurant also preserves the traditional method of dipping the fried pork cutlet skewers directly into a miso donabe pot—a taste that is truly unforgettable.
