Every late winter to early spring, when the cherry blossom season arrives, thousands of Taiwan cherry and double-flowered cherry trees sway along the Northern Cross-Island Highway, their petals fluttering down in a riot of color, attracting many visitors. The 2016 Northern Cross-Island Cherry Blossom Festival was affected by the weather, causing the blossoms to bloom later than usual. From now until early March, you can enjoy the beautiful sight of cherry blossoms blooming along the highway—don’t miss this fleeting season.

Famous cherry blossom spots in northern Taoyuan’s Northern Cross-Island area include:Dongyue Mountain,Jiaobanshan,Ren’ai Cherry Blossom Garden,Shilang Cherry Blossom Trail—all currently in peak bloom. In the mountainous rear area, key spots for viewing mountain cherry blossoms include:Shenmu Road(Taoyuan Route 116(a municipal road),Sanguiguan Viewpoint,Gu Dian CoffeeandBiyawai,Gaoyi Lan Tribe,as well asHegaowan Cherry Blossom Story Trail. Meanwhile, the peach blossoms at Yeheh Terraced Fields are also in full bloom. As for the highly anticipated Zhongbalin Cherry Blossom Avenue and Shangbalin’s Cloud Cherry Blossom Rain—where the main varieties are Somei Yoshino, Yoshino cherry, and Shira-zakura—they are expected to reach full bloom only after February 20.

2016 North Cross-Isis Area Cherry Blossom Season Shuttle Information
On 2/20-2/21, 2/27-2/29, and 3/5-3/6, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, the shuttle route runs between Baleng Bridge and the Shangbaleng Parking Lot, making stops along the way at Baleng Bridge, Lala Mountain Tourism Service Center, Gu Dian Coffee, Zhongbaleng Cherry Blossom Avenue, Guangming Farm, Shangbaleng Parking Lot, in front of Shangbaleng Police Station, Sanguixishui Viewing Platform, Zhongbaleng Cherry Blossom Avenue, and Helipad (Baleng Ancient Trail Park). Shuttle buses run approximately every 20 minutes.
