The must-visit Tokyo attraction “Ghibli Museum, Mitaka” has announced that it will be closed for facility renovation from May 9 to July 15. Fans planning to make a pilgrimage to the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka during this period should take special note.

The “Ghibli Museum, Mitaka” was planned by globally renowned animation master Hayao Miyazaki. Unlike other museums that simply offer exhibits, in addition to showcasing works from Studio Ghibli, the museum also aims to allow visitors to personally interact with scenes that only exist in animation. As such, the museum does not provide maps or set routes, nor does it focus on any particular work—visitors are free to decide what they want to see and explore at their own pace. Familiar and adorable characters from the animations may unexpectedly appear in various corners. Though each visitor leaves with different memories, all depart feeling enriched both emotionally and intellectually. Now, in order to carry out facility renovations, the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka will be closed for two months starting from May 9. Studio Ghibli fans planning a visit should pay close attention.
