The Agana Shipyard in Bakesimen, which recently gained attention when Captain America actor Chris Evans filmed an ad here, was unexpectedly demolished on the 15th, sparking renewed discussion. In response, Keelung Mayor Lin You-chang also posted a statement expressing deep sorrow and condemnation for this act of disrespect toward the local cultural and historical structure.

The site of the Agana Shipyard in Bakesimen was once the terminus of the Shuibatai Railway. The Shuibatai Railway transported ore such as gold and copper mined from the Jinguashi area to this storage point before shipping it to Japan for smelting into red copper and bronze. Locals called this place the "Copper Mine." In 1967, the Shuibatai Railway ceased operations, and the American Argonaut Yacht Company leased part of the Bakesimen station area to build factories for yacht manufacturing, providing numerous job opportunities and making Bakesimen quite prosperous for a time. Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last. After the Argonaut Company went out of business due to poor management, the site was shut down, leaving behind these towering steel ruins. This beautiful ruin gained fame again recently as film crews frequently came here to shoot, especially when “Captain America” filmed an ad here, attracting many tourists eager to visit.

On February 15, the Agana Shipyard in Bakesimen was unexpectedly demolished. Keelung Mayor Lin You-chang posted on his official fan page that the city government had not received any prior notice, nor any application for local development or construction. He expressed deep sorrow over such an act of disrespect toward the local cultural and historical structure. After confirmation by the Urban Development Bureau, it was determined to be an unauthorized demolition. A fine of NT$30,000 was imposed, and the demolition was ordered to stop. In addition to completing the necessary procedures, the Urban Development Bureau and the Cultural Affairs Bureau have also stepped in, hoping to make every effort to preserve the ruins.
