In Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, an elderly farmer spent ten years planting a vast pink shibazakura flower carpet next to his home to cheer up his blind wife, hoping to see her smile again. This beautiful and romantic sea of flowers now attracts over seven thousand visitors each year.

Farmer Toshiki Kuroki from Shin-Tomi Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, and his wife once dreamed of traveling together after retirement. However, years ago, his wife became blind due to diabetes, which led to her sinking into depression. One day, Farmer Kuroki noticed how much passersby loved the shibazakura flowers in his garden. Determined to bring more joy into their lives, he decided to plant more shibazakura fields to attract visitors. That way, even if she couldn’t go out, his wife could still interact with more people.
