Every weekend and holiday, the area around Taichung’s Qinxin Museum of Fine Arts is packed with visitors out for a stroll, soaking up the sun. Whether you’re looking to shop, visit exhibitions, or simply wander through tree-lined green spaces, it’s a great choice. Recently, a unique dessert shop named “Sansei-en Matcha,” designed to look like a large piece of installation art, opened right next to the Qinxin Museum. This dessert brand, which has already gained considerable popularity in southern Taiwan, has attracted many matcha enthusiasts since its opening in Taichung, sparking a matcha craze.

Sansei-en Matcha is a matcha specialty shop with a 500-year history in Japan. It currently has five branches in southern Taiwan, each with its own unique design. Making its first foray into central Taiwan, Sansei-en Matcha has specially crafted its storefront to resemble the historic trading ship “Sansei Maru,” while the interior is infused with a rich Edo-period retro atmosphere—making you feel as if you’ve stepped into a time machine and traveled back to ancient Japan to enjoy desserts.
