It’s the perfect time to travel in Asia. Hotels.com, an online hotel booking platform, has released its latest Hotel Price Index report, showing that the global average nightly hotel rate in 2015 increased slightly by 1% compared to 2014, while Asia saw the largest decline. For example, Taiwan’s average nightly hotel price dropped by 11% from 2014, which also boosted tourism activity in Asia.

Among them, while Japan — a top travel destination for Taiwanese — mostly saw rising hotel prices, many other Asian destinations such as Bangkok, Hong Kong and Macau, Seoul, Singapore, and Chiang Mai all experienced price drops of around 10%. Bangkok became the third most popular overseas travel destination this year, while Chiang Mai, with an affordable average price of NT$1,890, emerged as a budget-friendly option.

According to statistics, visitor arrivals to Taiwan have exceeded 10 million. Taipei, which ranks among the top five overseas travel destinations for travelers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Korea, also saw a 12% decline in prices. In recent years, Hong Kong visitors have had the highest repeat visitation rate. In addition to Taipei maintaining its top spot, Taichung also entered the top ten favorite overseas destinations for Hong Kong travelers this year.
