It’s peak cherry blossom season now — the King Cherry Tree at Alishan is in full bloom!

The Chiayi Alishan Flower Festival kicked off on March 10th, with various beautiful and colorful cherry blossoms blooming one after another. Among them, the famous cherry blossom spot at Alishan — the “King Cherry Tree,” a Yoshino cherry tree — was announced to be in full bloom on the 21st. Those planning to visit Alishan for the cherry blossoms can expect the best viewing period to begin around the end of March. Visitors eager to witness the beauty of the cherry blossoms should hurry and plan their trip soon.

Due to weather conditions, the cherry blossom season this year at Alishan has been slightly delayed. Currently, the “King Cherry Tree” in front of the Alishan Work Station is already in full bloom and looks absolutely stunning. Huang Yuanming, a teacher from Xianglin Elementary School who has long shared Alishan scenery online, also mentioned on his fan page “Strolling Through the Clouds of Alishan” that some of the blossoms at the King Cherry Tree are starting to turn red at the center — a sign that the Yoshino cherry blossoms are transitioning from their peak to fading. This means that when the blossoms start shifting from pale pink to pinkish-red, the next phase of “cherry blossom rain” or “cherry blossom snowfall” is about to begin. Therefore, visitors hoping to see the King Cherry Tree in all its glory should act quickly.
