Taichung’s New Highlight: National Public Information Library Surrounded by Blooming Flowers

The main building of the National Public Information Library has five floors above ground and two below, covering an area of 2.164 hectares with a total floor space of approximately 41,797 square meters. It is roughly divided into visitor service areas, conference and learning zones, public service sections, and administrative support areas.

The interior design adopts an outside-in concept, integrating outdoor window views from different floors into the color schemes and furnishings, creating bright, spacious, and modern indoor spaces. Not only was its appearance highly noted upon opening in 2012, but it also serves as a great spot for reading, leisure, and learning on weekends and holidays.

Recently, an idle lot next to the National Public Information Library along Section 3 of Fuxing Road has undergone a dramatic transformation. The over two-hectare plot has been turned into a vast field of flowers, becoming a new urban flower-viewing highlight. The vibrant sunflowers and cosmos attract passersby to stop and admire or take photos.

This land, managed by the Taichung City Construction Bureau, has been beautified over the past three months. Now, clusters of blooming flowers have emerged, transforming the more than two-hectare vacant plot into a large flower sea. In addition to visiting the library, visitors can also enjoy flower viewing and photo opportunities, immersing themselves in the ambiance of spring. The sunflower and cosmos blooming seasons will last until late April. Future plans include adding evergreen shrubs, seasonal flowers, a large lawn, and walking paths to present varying landscapes.
