One of the Seven Wonders of the World – Mexico’s Mayan Pyramids

Mexico is a country where modern tourism blends seamlessly with ancient civilizations. In addition to the world-renowned beach resort of Cancun, it also boasts Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World selected a few years ago, representing Mayan civilization. This ancient city of architecture embodying Mayan calendar and astronomy is full of allure and is an absolute must-visit destination when traveling in Mexico.

Around the year 600 AD, Chichen Itza was the most important and prosperous city-state during the Mayan Classic Period, featuring stone structures such as temples, palaces, stages, and ball courts, many of which are still preserved to this day. Among these buildings, the most famous is the Temple of Kukulcan, built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Although not as massive as the Egyptian pyramids, the towering stone structure rising from the green grass is still awe-inspiring. The Temple of Kukulcan is located right in the center of Chichen Itza. As its name suggests, the entire building was constructed in honor of the feathered serpent god Kukulcan, and at the top of the pyramid, you can even see the red throne of the feathered serpent god Jaguar King.
