Top diving spots revealed: The world’s hottest dive site in Asia

As water activities gain popularity, international diving expert Li Yueyao is in Taiwan this time to share his diving experiences in Malaysia’s underwater paradise. He particularly introduces Sipadan Island, voted by renowned UK diving media SCUBA Travel as the No. 1 dive destination in 2016, as well as the newly uncovered secret dive spot, the North Luconia Shoals, offering diving enthusiasts a cool summer escape!

During the sharing session, Li Yueyao unveiled must-visit islands and hidden gems for diving in Malaysia. For example, Sipadan Island in Malaysia is hailed as the best spot in the world to observe barracuda, along with spectacular underwater scenery. Its vast underwater pasture, where occasional ocean currents rush through, is home to white-tip sharks, sea turtles, groupers, snapper schools, humphead parrotfish, and barracuda groups.

The best months to dive in Malaysia are from March to September, when the climate is warm and pleasant. Around islands in western Malaysia such as Tioman and Swallow Reef, as well as eastern Malaysian islands like Sipadan and Layang-Layang, divers can witness tornado-like barracuda schools and spiraling snapper schools swimming right past them.

A common concern among diving enthusiasts is how to protect dive sites and marine ecosystems from human damage. Li Yueyao shared how he has long communicated with Sipadan resort operators to persuade them to withdraw from the island and reduce pollution. The Malaysian government has also established protected areas and regulated related businesses through seminars, ensuring that dive sites remain unpolluted.
