The traditional streetscapes and temple scenery of Kyoto, Japan, attract thousands of travelers from around the world every year. To allow visitors to experience Kyoto’s traditional culture more deeply, the city has opened up five temples for foreign guests to stay in. However, spending a night isn’t cheap—each night costs 150,000 yen, including dinner and translation services.

Kyoto announced that starting in May, it will offer five temples in the city for foreign travelers to stay in, includingEiun-in, a sub-temple of Tenryu-ji (a World Heritage Site), Kanga-an of Daikaku-ji, Reigen-in of Ninna-ji, Shigetsu-in of Jotoku-ji, and Shunko-in of Myoshin-ji. To help guests fully cleanse their minds, temple accommodations do not have TVs—only simple bedding and toiletries are provided. Additionally, guests can enjoy Japanese cultural experiences such as tea ceremonies, zazen meditation, and sutra lectures in the temple gardens.
