Dabansho is located in central Taichung. Within less than six months of opening, it has built up a huge following and become a must-visit food destination. Also known as Imagawa-yaki or Taiko Manju, Dabansho is what most people know as Japanese dorayaki. It became a beloved sweet treat in Japan during the mid-Edo period and could often be found at festivals and temple fairs. It was introduced to Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period and evolved into the more diverse forms and flavors we now know as the red bean pancake.

A wide variety of flavors is one of the shop’s hallmarks. Of the 14 options, you’ll find red bean, butter, taro, preserved radish, sweet potato, matcha red bean, cheese, crystal peanuts & sesame, chocolate, corn cheese, kimchi cheese, black pepper tuna, and taro egg yolk.Vegetarians need not worry – only the black pepper tuna and kimchi cheese contain meat; the rest are egg-and-dairy vegetarian friendly. The shop also offers more than just Dabansho – there are fried items and drinks for a more complete meal experience.

Using quality ingredients and offering rich textures is the owner’s commitment, reflected in every thin-crusted, generously filled pancake. The most popular flavor, “Taro Egg Yolk”, is limited to 120 pieces per day. Its smooth, sweet taro paste contains actual taro bits, paired with a juicy salted duck egg. Just looking at the cross-section reveals a visually stunning and satisfying texture, with a whole egg yolk inside – very generous use of ingredients. The “Crystal Series” has a translucent look similar to agar jelly. It’s not overly sweet or greasy, and the design helps prevent the filling from seeping through the crust, ensuring a delightful melt-in-your-mouth experience. Another highlight is the kid-favorite “Chocolate

” flavor – unlike other shops that simply use chocolate sauce, they actually add chocolate chunks. The taste differs greatly whether eaten hot or cold.@min_1017_▲ The Crystal Series is also highly praised, with its stretchy, chewy texture making mouths water. (Photo/IG

The shop recommends enjoying the pastries fresh out of the oven for the best taste, but if you prefer a texture similar to soft and chewy bread, they can be consumed at room temperature within 6 hours or refrigerated for up to 2 days. Simply reheat in the oven to enjoy as breakfast or a snack.
