In recent years, vendors have been innovating by adding various fresh ingredients to the mix, from the currently trending matcha and purple sweet potato to tapioca pearls. It’s now peak strawberry season, and Taoyuan’s Longtan-based “Happiness Train Wheel Cake” has launched a limited-edition flavor called “Black Skin Strawberry.” Made with Xuebao strawberries and custard cream simmered with natural vanilla pods, then wrapped in a chocolate crust, each piece is sold for NT$20 and is available only in limited quantities. One bite delivers a sweet-and-sour flavor that overflows with happiness—the appearance alone is enough to make your mouth water.

“Happiness Train Wheel Cake” has been in business for over 10 years, founded by a couple passionate about public welfare. Their business philosophy centers on local service, handmade ingredients, and spreading happiness.In addition to Black Skin Strawberry, there are also 15 other creative flavors such as purple sweet potato, coconut taro, tapioca custard, and matcha custard—all priced at NT$15 each, making them super affordable.

The shop also offers “Wheel Ice,” which comes in five or more flavors, each for NT$25. The owner said the brand uses Meiji or President-brand large ice cream balls sandwiched between the top and bottom crusts. The crispy, warm crust paired with cool ice cream makes it perfect for summer.

All fillings are freshly handmade daily by the couple. Though the flavors vary, they always stick to the principle of generous portions and quality ingredients—you can really taste the care put into each one. Notably, due to rising raw material costs, the shop will raise prices starting April 1, 2017: wheel cakes will go up by NT$3; wheel ice will be increased from NT$25 to NT$30.
