Second Major Duty-Free Store Opens in Seoul, Offering a New Shopping Destination

Seoul has long been a preferred destination for many travelers seeking shopping and culinary experiences abroad, particularly for Korean beauty products that draw in countless shoppers. Well-stocked and reasonably priced duty-free shops have become one of the go-to shopping destinations. In recent years, competition in Seoul’s duty-free market has intensified. In addition to the well-known Lotte Duty Free, both Shinsegae and Doota Mall have joined the race.

Following its openings in Busan and Incheon, Shinsegae Duty Free launched its new store in Myeongdong, a renowned shopping and tourist destination, on May 18. With over 600 brands, the store aims to be a “paradise where you can experience culture and enjoy shopping.” The duty-free shop employs Chinese and English interpreters to cater to the needs of international visitors, attracting numerous tourists.

Meanwhile, Doota Duty Free in Dongdaemun opened on May 20, featuring Korean superstar Song Joong-ki as its spokesperson. The store also includes a special “Descendants of the Sun” exhibit and a Korean Culture Hall. To enhance the shopping experience for travelers, Doota Duty Free has extended its operating hours until 2 a.m. So, when you visit Seoul next, there's no need to worry about having nowhere to go at night—you can indulge in shopping to your heart's content.
