Leave Application Guide: 116 Total Public Holidays in 2017’s Six Long Breaks

The Executive Yuan has finalized the 2017 public holiday schedule for government agencies, totaling 116 days off — the same as this year. There are six long breaks of three days or more, one fewer than in 2017. But the Spring Festival break is only six days, three fewer than this year.

Next year features four four-day breaks: Peace Memorial Day (4 days), Children's Day and Tomb Sweeping Festival (4 days), Dragon Boat Festival (4 days), and National Day (4 days). Only Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Wednesday, October 4, with no adjacent holidays, but taking leave on October 5 and 6 will create a seven-day break combined with National Day.
 
Additionally, 2017 has three adjusted holidays: 228 Peace Memorial Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and National Day, all falling on Tuesdays. According to the "Regulations on Adjusting Workdays for Holidays," any holiday that lands on a Tuesday or Thursday will be adjusted, requiring makeup work or school on the preceding Saturday. The makeup workday for Dragon Boat Festival was originally set for May 20, but since May 20 coincides with the 2017 Junior High School Entrance Exams, it has been moved to June 3. Those planning 2017 trips should prepare early.
