Onna Island, a hidden paradise in Okinawa, boasts beachside bliss like heaven

Onna Island is a small isle encircled by layers of coral reefs. It’s just a 15-minute ferry ride from the main island of Okinawa. When viewed from above, the island is shaped like a crescent moon and has been playfully dubbed the “croissant island.” Because it remains relatively undeveloped, the island retains its pristine natural resources. With its crystal-clear waters and fine white sands, it has become a new travel hotspot for visitors to Okinawa.

With a population of just over 60 residents, Onna Island covers an area of approximately 0.47 square kilometers and has a maximum elevation of 27 meters. All daily necessities on the island are supplied from the main island of Okinawa. However, it boasts exceptional natural resources, such as beautiful fine white sandy beaches that encircle the entire island and crystal-clear, pristine waters, attracting over 60,000 visitors each year for water activities.

In addition to enjoying various water activities on the beach, the surrounding abundant coral reef resources also make Onna Island one of the top spots for snorkeling. Here, you can admire beautiful schools of tropical fish and colorful coral reefs. The extremely clear waters allow visitors to take crisp photos even while underwater.
