Taichung Ocean Tourism Season Kicks Off with Grand International Sand Sculpture Exhibition in Da’an

Taichung City hosts the 2016 Taichung Blue Ocean Tourism Season, taking place from June 15 to August 13 at Da’an Coastal Park. The event series opens with the “Da’an Coastal International Sand Sculpture Exhibition,” showcasing 20 sand sculptures themed on the ocean world. Additionally, a creative sand sculpture competition is held, inviting Japan’s only female sand sculptor, “Yukiko Matsuki,” to create works in Taiwan alongside other domestic and international sand sculpting experts.

This year’s sand sculpture exhibition draws inspiration from the classic tale of Sun Wukong causing havoc in the Dragon King’s palace, combined with oceanic mythology to take visitors on a journey into the marine world. There’s also a family-friendly cartoon series perfect for all ages. At the entrance of the sand sculpture exhibit, floral designs inspired by the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition set the stage.

In conjunction with the sand sculpture exhibition, Da’an Coastal Park has been transformed into the Da’an Visitor Service Center. The park’s swimming pool will open fully on July 2, offering a great spot for locals and tourists to cool off during the summer break. Additionally, from June 18 to July 7 (20 days), visitors to the Da’an Visitor Service Center can participate in a “Check-in to Win” event where they receive a free Lock&Lock water bottle (limited to 50 per day), and enter a lucky draw for prizes including an iPhone 6S, Sony 40-inch TV, iPad Mini, and Nespresso coffee capsule machines.
