Romantic White Valentine’s Day！New Classic Rose Garden Opens in New Rose Garden — Even Sunset Visits Are Possible

Today is White Valentine’s Day—take your loved one to see the roses together！The “2017 Taipei Rose Garden Spring Exhibition & Classic Rose Garden” has officially opened at the New Rose Garden of the Taipei Flower Expo. The exhibition runs from Wednesday, March 14 to Friday, March 31, with opening hours extended until 8:00 PM daily, allowing visitors to enjoy the surprises brought by both the “Taipei Rose Garden” and the newly opened “Classic Rose Garden” during both day and night.

Huang Lih-yuan, director of the Parks Department, said that the new Classic Rose Garden has planted over a hundred varieties and 500 rose bushes, managed intensively to create a richly blooming landscape so the public can admire the splendor of roses in bloom all year round. The design of Taipei Rose Garden mainly draws inspiration from European and Japanese styles. From fences to flower pillars, and from pillars to rose-covered corridors, rose-lined pathways connect the entire park, and in the future, visitors will be able to experience the carefully designed spaces of different styles within the park. Additionally, at the Greening Classroom in Hsinsheng Park, there will be a Do-It-Yourself decoupage workshop on batik-style art held twice daily—once in the morning and once in the afternoon—featuring rose-themed patterns that bring the elegant beauty of roses beyond the rose garden and into everyday life.

The first wave of exhibits features tea-scented roses, which are known for their graceful form, enchanting fragrance, long flowering period, and variety of colors. Whether in bud or in full bloom, these roses are exquisitely beautiful and offer endless viewing pleasure. One theory about the origin of tea-scented roses is that they were created when China’s China roses were brought back to Europe via East India Company tea ships and then hybridized with European old garden roses, eventually becoming one of the most beloved rose varieties in the world today. Currently, there are many hybrid tea-scented rose varieties, including fragrant types in pink, orange, yellow, white, lavender, and multicolor.
