Trial Operation Opening Schedule and Discounts for National Taichung Theater

The long-awaited National Taichung Theater officially opened on August 26 after years of construction. It will undergo a one-month trial operation before its grand opening on September 30. To encourage local residents to enjoy artistic performances, the “Taichung Citizen Card” offers an 20% discount on performance tickets and free general guided tours of the theater.

Acclaimed as one of the world’s nine new landmarks, the National Taichung Theater was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito. With the concept of a “Sonic Cavern,” it features unique designs such as curved walls, holes, and tubular structures. The entire building has no supporting beams and not a single 90-degree wall, breaking conventional architectural norms.

The National Theater houses three professional stages and a multifunctional space called the “Corner Salon.” Every seat in the theater delivers the same exceptional acoustic experience, with no poor sightlines—ensuring a clear view of the stage. The surrounding landscape design also follows the Sonic Cavern concept, making every part, from the inside out and from the ground to the roof, a captivating stage.
