Typhoons No. 6 and No. 7 form in succession; travelers to Japan should stay alert

According to the forecast from the Central Weather Bureau, the seventh typhoon, a mild one named Chanthu (international name CHANTHU), has its center positioned at 26.9 degrees north latitude and 144.9 degrees east longitude. It is moving northwestward at a speed of 18 to 26 kilometers per hour. The central pressure of the typhoon is 985 hectopascals, with the maximum near-center wind speed reaching 25 meters per second and the maximum instantaneous gusts reaching 33 meters per second. The radius of the seventh-level wind zone is 150 kilometers.

High temperatures prevail across Taiwan, with afternoon thunderstorms likely in mountainous areas of the Taipei metropolitan area and coastal regions as well as outlying islands prone to swells. Temperatures may soar up to 36°C. In the western half of the country, southern areas such as Taoyuan and further south have maximum temperatures around 32–34°C. Afternoon brief thunderstorms in mountainous areas should also be noted. Southern regions are affected by low pressure, with localized brief showers, a 60–70% chance of rainfall, so it's advisable to carry rain gear. Taitung in southeastern Taiwan and Orchid Island may experience showers or thunderstorms, so be cautious of swells. Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung are influenced by thermal effects, resulting in mostly cloudy weather with greater instability—expect periods of cloudiness, brief showers, or thunderstorms. With recent soaring temperatures, remember to stay hydrated, use sun protection, and carry rain gear in case of rain.
