The first branch of Hokkaido’s GARAKU soup curry in Taipei began trial operations on August 23, 2016. JuYan International, the importer of GARAKU soup curry, previously operated Hu Tong BBQ and also introduced “the world’s second best grilled ice cream pineapple bread” in the summer of 2016. Their dining presence is further expanded through the introduction of this Japanese brand.

The highlight of Hokkaido’s GARAKU soup curry lies in its made-to-order preparation. In addition to its Japanese-Western fusion style, it incorporates Southeast Asian and South Indian curry flavors, offering spice lovers a new choice. With the concept of medicinal cuisine, the rich base made from chicken and pork bone broth is distinct from regular curries as it avoids flour and is simmered with a large amount of water. Paired with plenty of vegetables, it creates a rich yet refreshing taste—less thick but with more layered flavors—delivering a whole new curry experience.

For sides, you can choose rice with cheese—a healthy curry based on various vegetables—and select from three levels of spiciness, mixed with ingredients like white wine and ghost pepper for added flavor variations. The signature GARAKU Tender Chicken Thigh, marinated in a secret sauce beforehand and seared before serving, offers an even richer aroma. It comes with 180-degree-fried potatoes and broccoli, tender braised carrots, plus shredded lettuce, black fungus, lotus root, and quail eggs, all served with the rich soup curry—making for a healthy and hearty popular dish.

Special discounts are available during the trial opening period. Regular main dishes are priced between 360–380 NTD, and with additional à la carte items, the total cost per person is around 400–500 NTD. Fans of Japanese cuisine should definitely take this chance to try it out.
