A railway connecting Europe and Asia has been launched. On September 8, 2016, China’s first freight train from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to Europe began operations. Although the China-Europe freight trains are cargo services and their actual usage in future operations remains in question, the launch of this train still symbolizes a milestone in railway transportation.

The China-Europe freight train departs from Xining on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, exits China at the Alashankou border, passes through Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland, Germany, and other countries, and finally arrives in Antwerp, Belgium. The journey takes 12 days and covers a total distance of 9,838 kilometers.
