Record stores continue to decline as Rose Records' last outlet reportedly closes

With the digitization of music and its sales, physical record stores have been shutting down one after another. Rose Records, once Taiwan’s largest chain of record stores, has also gradually closed its outlets in recent years. Its last remaining store, the Taichung New Era branch, also ceased operations on September 30, 2016.

The New Era Shopping Mall branch, which became “Taiwan’s last Rose Records store,” also offered discounts before closing, with storewide discounts starting at 30% off and some items at 50% off. Fans of CDs, records, and audiovisual products might want to visit and shop during this time.

 

 

Rose Records was formed in 2002 through a merger of the original Rose Records and Popular Records. After Rose Records closed, Taiwan still had Popular Records, Eslite Music, and other independently operated record stores. In the past, Taiwan also had the Tower Records chain (known in Taiwan as “Tower Music City”), but it, too, exited the Taiwanese market due to the decline of the record industry and changes in sales and listening formats. With the closure of Rose Records, the map of record store landmarks in Taiwan has shrunk once again.
