Not Your Ordinary is located on Chenggong Road in Tainan City, about a 5–10 minute walk from Tainan Railway Station. It started in August 2015 as a street stall under the overpass right across from Jiacheng Girls' High School, and finally opened its first store in January 2016. Founders Mi Di and Mango hope this shop can live up to its name by offering steamed buns that are truly different from the rest.

Known for affordable prices and creative offerings, Not Your Ordinary’s menu items range between 20–50 NT$,which is considered great value when you consider how filling they are. You won’t find the traditional steamed buns stuffed with meat and pickled vegetables here. Instead, there are creative fillings that balance savory and sweet. In the“Classic Steamed Bun”series, the stir-fried noodle bread flavor uses a unique Japanese cooking method to stir-fry onions and meat, then seasons it with mayonnaise. It's generous in portion and super appetizing; the Japanese-style fried chicken is filled with tender, juicy fried chicken also drizzled with mayo, making it a hit with kids; the three-cup chicken flavor combines chicken breast with the aroma of sesame oil, and lettuce adds a fresh touch that lightens up the bun.

“The “Rainbow Steamed Buns”series feature limited-edition daily flavored skins paired with sweet fillings. Current bun skin options include matcha, sesame, brown sugar, and red bean. The“Fried Steamed Bun”series offers a texture reminiscent of crispy deep-fried rolls but without the greasiness. The bomb cheese flavor is the star of this lineup—crispy steamed bun skin paired with smooth fried egg and stretchy melted cheese, making everyone feel like they’re in food heaven.

To maintain quality, the shop insists on making everything fresh to order. This is partly to prevent the bun steams from getting soggy if steamed too long, and also to ensure the fillings don’t lose their texture if left standing too long. Customers might need to wait patiently—or pre-order to shorten the wait time.Aside from the main shop, the owners also set up a morning stall outside Jiacheng Girls’ High School from 06:30 to 08:00 (while supplies last), so anyone wanting to try these delicious treats can swing by during those hours.
