High-speed rail operates normally; additional services added for typhoon and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday

[Updated 2016/09/14 17:00]   The high-speed rail company has announced the suspension of services between Tainan and Zuoying, Kaohsiung. Northbound trains will depart from Tainan Station. Due to Typhoon Meranti, at 13:38 today, September 14 (Wednesday), an incident occurred on the Yanchao section of Kaohsiung where strong winds blew down a vegetable net that became entangled with overhead wires, causing the pantograph of southbound Train 633 to break and the train to make a temporary stop.

Due to this incident, operations between Tainan and Zuoying have been suspended. All southbound trains will run as far as Tainan, and northbound trains will depart from Tainan Station instead.

 
Taiwan High-Speed Rail, based on the latest typhoon information, announced that services will remain normal across all lines today (September 14) and on Mid-Autumn Festival Day (September 15). To ensure operational safety, if wind speeds or rainfall in certain sections become too severe and reach operational restriction standards, trains will implement speed limits. At the same time, after reviewing passenger booking status for Mid-Autumn Festival Day, the high-speed rail company has decided to add 4 additional southbound train services to help transport passengers, and ticket sales will open from 10:00 AM on September 14.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival transport period, all train services will maintain 3 to 5 cars of non-reserved seating. Passengers holding periodical tickets, return tickets, or Easycard (with auto top-up enabled) can directly tap in to ride the non-reserved cars. In addition, the high-speed rail company will, depending on station crowding and capacity scheduling, flexibly add fully non-reserved car trains to transport passengers.

Train No. 1605 (departing at 07:01)
Train No. 1643 (departing at 13:21)
Train No. 1649 (departing at 14:21)
Train No. 1537 (departing at 15:36)

Due to Typhoon Meranti, some Taiwan Railways services are suspended or altered
