Typhoon Khanun (international name: CHABA), the 18th typhoon, formed in the early hours of September 28. Its center was positioned at 14.7°N, 150.1°E, moving west at 21 km/h. The central pressure was 998 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 18 m/s near the center and gusts reaching up to 25 m/s. The radius of the 7-level wind zone was 100 km.
