The most anticipated road run—the Qishan Marathon Banana Run—kicked off on January 8, 2017, incorporating the local specialty “banana” and featuring Japan’s Mr. Banana, BANAO, as the spokesperson. Together with fellow runners, he dashed through every beautiful corner of Qishan. The event pioneered a running voice guide app that lets participants enjoy introductions to attractions along the route. Official aid stations also offered a variety of banana-themed snacks, allowing everyone to run past banana plantations and savor banana flavors, all while happily “banana-traveling.”

To promote tourism in Qishan, the organizers held Taiwan’s first-ever banana run, offering courses ranging from a 3K family fun walk to a 21K race. It pioneered a running voice guide app that lets runners enjoy audio introductions to attractions along the way, quickly learn about Qishan’s culture, and stay informed about aid station locations and the distance to the finish line.

The Banana Run starts from downtown Qishan, passing by Qishan Railway Station and Qishan Old Street, as well as several historic landmarks such as Shuanglong Temple, Kunzhou Palace, and St. Joseph’s Church. Runners will also pass through fields and follow paths flanked by banana plantations on both sides, stroll down tree-lined boulevards, cross rivers via Qizhou Bridge and Dijing Bridge—Qishan’s renowned sights—and explore every charming corner of Qishan. This run combines fitness with travel, offering a full view of the area’s attractions.
