The Huadu Art Season Opens with Opera Diva Hayley Westenra Descending on the Mountain City

The Taichung Huadu Art Season is about to commence. In conjunction with the 2018 World Flora Exposition in Taichung, this edition of the Huadu Art Season has been expanded. A total of over 200 events across eight major categories will be held at 53 venues in the mountainous, coastal, Tuntien, and urban areas. On the opening day, internationally acclaimed opera diva Hayley Westenra will perform. She will collaborate with the National Experimental Choir to sing beloved works such as "When We Open the Window of Our Hearts" by Taiwan's "Father of Choral Music," Lu Quanseing.

To commemorate the centennial of Taiwan’s “Father of Choral Music,” Lu Quanseing, during the opening performance, Hayley will collaborate with the National Experimental Choir to perform his popular piece “When We Open the Window of Our Hearts.” The National Experimental Choir will also perform two other classic works by Lu Quanseing, “Lullaby for a Baby” and “Don’t Keep Goldfish at the Bottom of the Cup.” Additionally, Hayley will sing “Rainy Night Flower” and several flower-themed songs from China and abroad, including “Flower Heart,” using her warm and pure voice to adorn the night sky of the mountain city.

The “2016 Taichung Huadu Art Season” will host over 200 events over a span of two and a half months. It will utilize 53 activity venues including four major cultural centers, libraries, performance spaces, and cultural heritage sites. These events fall into eight major categories: performing arts, visual arts, installation art, outstanding team selections, street parades, Huadu Fantasy Children’s Theater, mini-stage relay shows, and art highlights.
