Five Major Flower Fields Bloom Together at the Taoyuan Flower Festival

The 2nd Taoyuan City Flower Festival in 2016 was held successively in five districts of Taoyuan City: Zhongli, Daxi, Luzhu, Dayuan, and Pingzhen. This year, each of the five exhibition areas has its own unique theme — Zhongli with a sporty vibe, Daxi with a leisurely feel, Luzhu with a hipster style, Dayuan with a rural atmosphere, and Pingzhen showcasing a playful charm. The festival includes large-scale installations, flower fields, community mini-tours, and local farmers' markets, offering visitors the chance to experience the distinct appeal of each flower zone.

Taoyuan is the kingdom of flowering plants, with about 90% of Taiwan’s ornamental flowers produced here. The first Flower Festival coincided with fallow farming periods, prompting flower farmers to grow drought-resistant ornamental crops, attracting around 250,000 visitors. This year, artists from the Land Art Festival have been invited to create large installations that showcase community development achievements, bringing a fresh experience to local residents.

Held near the Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium, the Zhongli area adopted the theme “LoveFUN Home,” presenting a vibrant flower field with a rainbow and family theme, along with the artwork “Abundant Grass. Bali” created by artists Liao Boson and Chen Yongchang.

The Daxi area starts from Yuemei Village, exploring the theme of visiting a backyard garden, showcasing local specialties such as spinning tops and tree totems. In collaboration with artist Kao Ching-jung and the Yuemei Leisure Agriculture Development Association, the exhibit “Starry Flower Sea, Greeters” is displayed at the event venue. Additionally, Xu ?, the creator of the 2016 Taoyuan Land Art Festival piece “Thank You, Crab,” was invited to present a large floral artwork titled “Crab, Crab, Crab.” The artwork can also be seen at the event venue.
