The Airport MRT to open after Lunar New Year, not connected to high-speed rail or Taipei MRT

After 20 years, the country’s first airport MRT line is finally entering its countdown to opening. The Airport MRT, which has successfully completed its preliminary inspection, is expected to open as early as after the Lunar New Year in 2017. Travel time from Taipei Main Station to Taoyuan Airport will take just 36 minutes. However, sharp-eyed netizens have noticed that the Airport MRT is not directly connected to Taipei Main Station MRT; after exiting, passengers still need to walk for 6 minutes to transfer to Taiwan Railways and the high-speed rail, and even nearly 10 minutes to reach the Taipei MRT.

Once the Airport MRT opens, the large commuter population in Taoyuan is bound to change the lives of locals and also bring a certain level of convenience to travelers heading abroad.
