Many travelers to Japan end up spending any leftover yen at airport duty-free shops, restaurants, drugstores, or even in coin-operated vending machines. Narita Airport has come up with a clever idea, recognizing that foreign visitors love Japanese gachapon toys and small figurines. At Terminal 2, the airport has installed 171 gachapon machines offering a total of 342 different items. This allows passengers to grab a surprise just before departure—whether it’s a fun trinket for personal collection or a gift for someone else. This new facility has garnered positive feedback from many travelers visiting Japan.

On July 29, 2016, Narita Airport previously set up 190 gachapon machines as a limited-time attraction, featuring products from major toy manufacturer TAKARA TOMY for two months until the end of September. Due to good returns and strong support from passengers, the airport reinstated this gachapon machine zone starting December 5, letting travelers use up every last bit of spare change. It’s a way to make your final Japanese purchases count—satisfying for passengers and profitable for both the gachapon vendors and Narita Airport. It’s a highly praised feature.

In addition, Narita Airport’s official Facebook page officially launched on December 1, and it also announced the opening of “Air BICCAMERA” on the fourth floor of Terminal 2, providing passengers with more convenient shopping options before their flights.
