Hong Kong's New Year's Eve Countdown Fireworks and Music Spectacular to Be Broadcast Live Worldwide

Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the "Bank of China Hong Kong 2017 Hong Kong New Year’s Eve Countdown" event will be held on the evening of December 31st at Victoria Harbour and on various buildings in Hong Kong Island. This year’s extravaganza will last for ten minutes and feature a rich array of elements including fireworks, pyrotechnics, music, and lighting, as well as several brand-new firework designs such as “Six Stars in a Row,” “Butterflies in Flight,” and “Sea Salute.”

Special lighting effects will also appear on the water for the first time, enhancing the festive mood of the fireworks show. In addition, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will host a street party in Tsim Sha Tsui before the countdown show, inviting celebrity guests to celebrate together and ring in the new year.

At 10:00 p.m., a street party will kick off around Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, featuring performances by various celebrity guests. After 11:00 p.m., six buildings located on Hong Kong Island—including Cheung Kong Center, CITIC Tower, Harbour Centre, Harbour Place, Government Offices at Hong Kong 1881, and the Revenue Tower—will launch “Wishing Stars” fireworks from their rooftops every 15 minutes. These symbolize different meanings and allow visitors and residents to make New Year’s wishes.

Those wishing to enjoy the show can view it from multiple locations across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Prime viewing spots include: Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, the coastal area near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, the new Central Harbourfront, the area around piers 9 and 10 in Central, and Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. Additionally, to share this exciting moment with a global audience, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will broadcast the event live via satellite to major television networks around the world that evening.
