Taiwan’s only triple-high music event: Alishan welcomes the 2017 sunrise

The “Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert” is an annual highlight of the recreational area, jointly hosted in rotation by the Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau, Chiayi County Government, and the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. To meet the needs of visitors chasing the “first light of 2017 New Year’s Day,” the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, managed by the Chiayi Forest District Office, will remain open 24 hours, and has also collaborated with tourism, transportation, and police units to implement traffic management and shuttle plans. The aim is to ensure that visitors coming up the mountain for sightseeing can depart safely with full positive energy and return home happily.

Important information is as follows:

The service hours of the Visitor Center have been extended to 7:00 PM on December 31, 2016, and opened early at 3:00 AM on January 1, 2017.

The “2017 Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert” will take place from 5:30 AM to 7:20 AM on January 1, 2017, at the Gaoyue Viewing Platform within the recreational area. To serve participants, the Visitor Center will open early at 3:00 AM on January 1, offering services such as travel consultation, luggage storage, and nursing (breastfeeding) facilities.

Free shuttle service on Highway 18, kilometers 89K–95K, from December 31, 2016, to January 2, 2017

“Sunrise” is one of the internationally renowned “Five Wonders” of the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, and the once-a-year opportunity to greet the first light of New Year’s Day is definitely not to be missed.

Given the limited parking space within the recreational area, to avoid parking issues affecting visitors’ experience, the Chiayi Forest District Office has designated roadside parking spaces along Highway 18 between kilometers 86–88K and 88–95K for large vehicles and passenger cars respectively, and has set up 10 free shuttle stops (spaced every 500 meters) between kilometers 89–95 of Highway 18. Visitors who park outside the area can take these shuttles free of charge to the entrance transfer station (temporary ticket checkpoint). Shuttle service runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on December 31, 2016, from 3:00 AM to 5:00 PM on January 1, 2017, and from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on January 2, 2017. The entrance transfer station outside the recreational area will also open according to shuttle schedules to provide waiting, cold protection, and drinking water services for visitors.
