Snow season on Hehuan Mountain begins on January 1st – Road traffic control information

The sections under traffic control during the snow season are the Provincial Highway 14A, from Dayuling via Xiaofengkou, Hehuan Mountain Visitor Service Center, Wuling, Kunyang, Yuanshan to Cuifeng, andthe “key periods of snow season control” are the Lunar New Year holiday (January 27th to February 1st), every regular weekend holiday, and the Peace Memorial Day holiday (February 25th to February 28th).The control methods are as follows:

◎ During the snow season, traffic control will be implemented when it snows or there is snow accumulation. If there is no snow or snow accumulation, traffic guidance will be carried out instead.
◎ During the traffic guidance period, the section from Dayuling to Hehuan Mountain Visitor Service Center and above Cuifeng will have flexible vehicle access depending on parking availability at both ends (Yuanshan, Wuling, Kunyang, Xiaofengkou) and traffic congestion conditions.
◎ During the snow season, when it snows, there is snow accumulation, or road surfaces are icy, according to traffic control information issued by the highway authorities, all types of vehicles except official vehicles and snowplows are prohibited from entering. During emergency snow removal operations, the entire section will be closed. After snow removal, access may be granted to vehicles equipped with snow chains depending on snow and road conditions; however, all types of motorcycles (including large heavy-duty motorcycles) are strictly prohibited from entering the controlled sections.

◎ When it snows, there is snow accumulation, or road surfaces are icy, Class A and B large buses and trucks over 3.5 tons are prohibited from entering the controlled sections. When there is no snow or snow accumulation, flexible control will be implemented according to current regulations.
◎ During the snow season, when there is snow accumulation or icy roads,from 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM the next day, predictive closure control of the sections will be implemented depending on actual conditions. If nighttime closure of snowy roads is necessary, relevant announcements will be confirmed by 3:00 PM on the same day.
◎ On the section of Provincial Highway 14A from Wuling to Hehuan Mountain Visitor Service Center, due to steep slopes, sharp turns, and roads that easily ice over, parking is prohibited on the cliff side to maintain traffic flow and safety.

Visitors are reminded to check snow and road conditions before heading up the mountain for snow viewing. In addition to understanding your physical condition and preparing cold-weather gear, also ensure your vehicle is suitable — such as whether it is old, has sufficient horsepower, is four-wheel drive, has proper oil and water levels, and anti-freeze capability.
