Eye-catching street-front store: Taiwan’s first “Tsuchikura” sushi shop

The well-known Japanese conveyor belt sushi chain – Kura Sushi, since2014its launch in Taiwan, has been a popular queuing hotspot. Its sixth branch is set to open in Taichung, which will also be the first street-front store in Taiwan designed in the style of a traditional Japanese earthen storehouse. The headquarters of Kura Sushi sent specialists to Taiwan to oversee construction, with the official opening scheduled for1month18.

A tsuchikura is a traditional Japanese warehouse-style building, which Kura Sushi’s president, Tanaka Kunihiko, considers a treasure trove full of novel experiences—hence the name “Kura” (meaning storehouse) for this conveyor belt sushi brand. Aside from its eye-catching exterior, the Kura Sushi store on Fuke Road in Taichung also boasts a spacious interior, complete with dedicated parking spaces and199counter seats, as well as4-6private tatami-style booths that can accommodate groups.
